3/15/19 - The Beginning Stage

Updated: May 22, 2019

We started coming up with ideas in September of a possible expo fest project ideas. We did lots of research to gain knowledge of theses topics, then we had to present our ideas to the class for feedback. We came up with so many ideas that we had to eliminate some that were not a good idea. We then started to eliminate the topics that we would not be feasible for expo. In December, we eliminated more ideas and we were left with 3 ideas. The coolest idea that we had was involving quantum dots. Our class liked this idea the best so we ruled out the other ideas. Our original idea was putting quantum dots into a car’s windshield glasses that are able to convert light into a less harsh light on people eyes. Once our class agreed on this topic, our class researched more about quantum dots. We read countless articles about quantum dots, wavelengths, different types of quantum dots and the color spectrum. One student read an article and we reached out and contacted the author of this article, the author was Dr. Talha Erdem. We found his email address and contacted him through email, seeking for more information about quantum dots since he is an expert in this field. One student went back and forth emailing Talha Erdem, we then set up a Facetime call with Talha. Talha said that our experiment could work, which was exciting to hear. After we talked with Talha, our class researched and contacted different quantum dot manufacturers, to see if we could get quantum dot film for our experiment.
